GreenHouse Gas & Energy Reduction

Upgrades and Efficiencies in Energy Use

GHG and Energy

SugarCreek invests in clean technologies that reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

EFFICIENCY PROJECTS:

SugarCreek's "Green Fleet"

  • SugarCreek’s “Green Fleet” consists of forty-three hybrid-electric refrigerated truck trailers that keep product cold during transportation. All SugarCreek facilities have corresponding hybrid trailer charging stations. The goal is to reduce emissions from diesel fuel exhausts, which contain harmful pollutants. Using trailers with hybrid refrigeration units eliminates an estimated 50% of greenhouse gases that would otherwise be emitted by diesel trailers.

LED Improvements

  • SugarCreek is improving all facility lighting with efficient LED light bulbs. This will save 1.4 million kWh annually at our Dayton and Washington Court House Facilities alone, which is equivalent to saving an estimated 1,000 metric tons of greenhouse gases every year.  The parking lot lights at the Cambridge City facility are LED light bulbs with daylight sensors. Using longer lasting LED light bulbs not only cuts electricity costs and usage, but also reduces maintenance costs.

Anaerobic Digestion

  • SugarCreek takes wastewater byproducts to anaerobic digesters. In 2017, 1.5 million kWh of renewable energy was created from our Ohio plants by converting the waste to energy.
